The artist Luis Fernando
Couto, was co-recipient
of the award Urbanity
2007, the Institute of
Architects of Brazil,
with the work Celo:
musical instrument made
of different roles and
scrap girl.
The award ceremony was
held on December 7,
2007, at the
headquarters of the IAB
Rio in Flamengo.
His work was part of the
exhibition "Reciclasa -
new uses for old
materials," the NGO Read
Brazil and sponsored by
IBM with the aim of
consolidating the
concept of recycling
material.
The project brought
together 50 artists,
architects and artisans
who composed their works
with a full house -
living room, bedroom and
children, office and
kitchen - using
recyclable materials for
both the structure,
finish, and for
furniture and
decorations.
The exhibition, which
circulated for 10 cities,
from August 2006 to
November 2007, was in
Rio in 2006 by the IAB
and will now stay
permanently in the
Museum of Hortolandia,
in Sao Paulo.
The Celo Luis Fernando,
1985, when discussion of
environmental issues
still seeking space on
the public agenda.
But already then the
concept of reuse has
been taken to extremes
by the artist, the
collection from which
the piece is part of
other miniatures made
from scrap.
Amelia Zaluar, the
curator responsible for
the craft with scrap and
recycled materials of
the exhibition,
explained that the award
of the IAB - for
projects related to
architecture - has
national impact.
"And our project won
alone," celebrated the
curator, who does not
save praise for the work
of Luis Fernando, who is
part of the body of work:
"I know his work for
many years.
It's a fantastic person.
The Celo is a collection
of musical instruments
he used paper.
Your work is incredible.
